Enhancing Preschool Teachers' Observation and Response Competencies Based on the Wisdom of Mengyang

Abstract：

The wisdom of Mengyang originates from the Meng hexagram in the I Ching. Its core principle is to recognize the malleability of children during the stage of immaturity, take the cultivation of moral integrity as the foundation, and provide enlightenment according to a logic that encourages active inquiry and offers guidance at the appropriate time. Preschool teachers' observation and response competencies are essential for implementing the Mengyang philosophy and promoting children's development. Drawing on key statements from the Meng hexagram of the I Ching, including “cultivating moral integrity during immaturity,” “the youthful and inexperienced seek me,” “embracing the inexperienced,” and “disciplining the inexperienced,” and incorporating practical scenarios from kindergarten education, this article systematically analyzes the cognitive biases and practical difficulties currently affecting preschool teachers' observation and response competencies. It then develops a competency enhancement system grounded in the wisdom of Mengyang from the perspectives of awakening observational awareness, establishing response orientations, optimizing interaction strategies, and facilitating competency internalization. The study provides theoretical support and practical guidance for improving the quality of enlightenment education in kindergartens and achieving the fundamental goal of preschool education: cultivating moral integrity during childhood.
