Breaking the Fixed Sterilization Mindset: Exploring a New Source Prevention and Control Model for Breeding Duck Culture Based on Microecological Balance

Abstract:
Large-scale breeding duck farming is a key component of livestock production and zoonotic disease prevention. The traditional epidemic prevention model relying on preventive antibiotics and high-intensity chemical disinfection aims to completely eliminate pathogens. Though effective in the short term, it triggers mucosal flora disorders, opportunistic pathogen resurgence, drug-resistant strain enrichment, reduced duck reproductive performance and elevated zoonotic risks. Based on public health, source prevention and farm sanitation theories, this paper analyzes the defects of sterilization-oriented breeding models. Applying host-microbe co-evolution, niche competition and microbial exposure theories, it clarifies that poultry health relies on balanced mucosal and environmental flora, dominant beneficial bacteria and blocked disease and drug resistance transmission chains, rather than complete microbe elimination. Combined with duckling colonization rules and the One Health concept, this paper proposes an antibiotic-free prevention and control model integrating duckling probiotic colonization, duck house biological regulation, precise antibacterial management and in vivo/in vitro microecological linkage. The model shifts epidemic prevention from passive sterilization to active ecological shaping, reduces recurrent bacterial diseases and drug-resistant bacteria proliferation, standardizes farm sanitation, and supports the transformation of China’s breeding duck industry toward antibiotic-free, scientific and safe production.
